LG's enterprise grade security foundation is called GATE which stands for Guarded Access for Enterprise. There are 4 pillars of GATE: Platform Security, Network Security, Application Security and Mobile Device Management, each with several features that together, secure the device yet plug into existing security products and ecosystems.
Let's dive into each one a bit more...
LG has hardened LG UX (their proprietary build of Android) with multiple platform level features to ensure software integrity to prevent unwanted hacks and tampering. They are also leveraging Android for Enterprise API sets as well to standardize their security offer with what Google has built.
Enhanced Secure Boot • Maintain the integrity of software components at system boot time • Strengthen system protection through more secure algorithm and longer key size SE Linux • Enforce MAC (Mandatory Access Control) policy provided by SE Linux to minimize vulnerability Enhanced Data Encryption • Strong encryption algorithm (AES-256) • Satisfying FIPS140-21 (U.S Federal Government Standard) • APIs available to enforce encryption via device management application Hardware Accelerated Encryption • More secure encryption process than software-based encryption • Faster and better user experience
LG has also made enhancements to GATE to allow users to stay securely connected with their corporate network including integration into most common VPNs leveraged in the enterprise.
LG VPN (Virtual Private Network) • Meets FIPS140-2 (U.S Federal Gov. Standard) • Support SSL VPN on top of Android native VPN framework • Accommodate Advanced IPSec VPN through LG VPN solution extension • Compatible with major VPN gateways (Examples are CheckPoint, Cisco, Fortinet FortiGate, Juniper, NETGEAR ProSafe, SonicWALL, StrongSwan, ZyXEL, StoneSoft, Windows Server)
GATE ensures application integrity and extends the support of Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync policies so users can securely access corporate email while on the go.
Integrity Monitoring • Verify the integrity of user applications on device • Notify the failures of verifi cation to device management applications (e.g. MDM) and users Simple Sync Simple Email, Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks syncing among devices
Secure Email • Recipients can only open, edit, reply, forward, or print the email and contents given the email author’s authorization • S/MIME and IRM support2
Finally, GATE proves a secure, reliable way to access work when away from the office by allowing corporate admins a method to manage and secure device that have access to the enterprise.
LG creates extended MDM APIs in Android framework so that MDM solution providers such as SOTI, Airwatch, Mobile Iron, SAP and Maas 360 can leverage them to provide the security to meet customer needs.
LG MDM Provide Security & Manageability of Mobile Devices Remotely 1. Configuration & Management 2. Granular Device Control 3. Device Protection
As you can see, hiding just under the surface of the V20 is an entire world of business security ready and waiting to kick in that allow users to have a balanced work and play life reflected in the device that they carry with them every day.
Just another way that LG lives up to their slogan of making Life Good with LG.
Until next time,
