Issues with Visual Voicemail?

If you are not receiving any visual voicemail notifications, or are receiving random texts from a 9016 shortcode, follow these steps to re-register your device with the Visual Voicemail system. If these steps do not resolve the issue then Customer Care/Technical Support will need to check the network side to ensure everything is setup correctly on the account.

EDIT: In some cases, third-party messaging applications like Handcent, GoSMS, etc. could intercept the text messages before the VVM application does. Check the messaging application to see if it has a compatibility setting that may prevent this behavior. You may need to uninstall the messaging app, re-register with the VVM server, and then reinstall the third-party app to fix the interception issue.

EDIT 2: If you use a third-party messaging application (GoSMS, Handcent, or similar) and are having issues, follow the below instructions:

If you have Go SMS you will need to disable the "disable other text notifications"

If you have Handcent, you will need to go into Handcent, press menu, settings, application settings, default messaging applications and then check "disable".

If you use another application, check for a similar setting that could be causing the issue.

To re-register withthe Visual Voicemail server:

  • If Android:
  1. Update Data profile.
  2. Turn phone off and back on.
  3. Go to voicemail screen.
  4. Click Menu > Compose.
  5. Click and then enter activate@vvm.sprint.com. (v v m, not wm)
  6. Tap Done.
  7. Click Record > Stop > Send.
  8. Wait a few minutes for old voicemail notifications to deliver.

  • If Samsung Instinct:
  1. Tap Phone > Voicemail > Compose icon on top left (notepad and pencil).
  2. Tap Manual Entry > Enter Email Address.
  3. Enter activate@vvm.sprint.com. (v v m, not wm)
  4. Tap Done during auto-record > Send.
  5. Wait a few minutes for old voicemail notifications to deliver.

  • If Blackberry:
  1. Ensure handset is on software version 6.0.0.407 for the BlackBerry Style 9670 or version 6.0.0.394 for the BlackBerry Curve 9330.
  2. Go to Visual Voicemail on the phone.
  3. Select Menu (Blackberry key) > Options.
  4. Press and hold Alt Key and press IRMI.
    • A popup will appear “Do you want to Reset Visual Voicemail
  5. Select Yes.

  • If Other:
  1. Update Data profile.
  2. Turn phone off and back on.
  3. Select Voicemail.
  4. Click + (plus) sign.
  5. Select Manual Entry > Enter Email Address.
  6. Enter activate@vvm.sprint.com. (v v m, not wm)
  7. Press Stop when recorder starts > Send.
  8. Wait a few minutes for old voicemail notifications to deliver.
