Data Roaming setting changes are required by you download the 7/31/12 software update. This will enable the expanded 1X/roaming coverage for Sprint Direct Connect.
What happens when you download the software update (version 5.5.1Q-117_PAX-63)?
The device “Roaming Settings” are not automatically updated to allow for Domestic Data Roaming and therefore must be manually changed for proper Push-To-Talk (PTT) performance.

When a you download the software update (version 5.5.1Q-117_PAX-63), the device “Roaming Settings” are not automatically updated to allow for Domestic Data Roaming and therefore must be manually changed for proper Push-To-Talk (PTT) performance.
- A PTT call can still be initiated in 1X/Roaming but the handset will indicate that it’s Roaming and will need the settings changed. The customer can accept the Data Roaming change on this screen or follow the steps below (remember that PTT calls will NOT incur extra roaming charges).
- You cannot receive a PTT call in 1X/Roaming until you update their Data Roaming settings.
- Note: New Admiral devices sold that are pre-loaded with the new software version will have the correct Data Roaming settings. Check the settings on any devices that are currently in inventory and are updated during the activation process.
Two settings need updated:
Turn “ON” Domestic Data Roaming:
Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Roaming Settings > check Domestic Data > choose OK on the Attention screen
Turn “OFF” Domestic Data Guard:
Menu > Settings > Wireless & Network > Mobile Networks > Roaming Guards > uncheck Data Guard
