No Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) coming to the Photon 4G

So I decided to engage Motorola to find out if the New Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is coming to the Photon 4G and they said no. I'm pretty dissapointed about this. Screen Shot 2011-10-25 at 1.52.47 PM.png

Motorola just released an update today.

Check the chart - says ICS for Photon is in development and rolling out in Q3: http://www.motorola.com/blog/2012/02/15/update-motorola-ice-cream-sandwich-news/

Thank for the info Jonathan

Funny that the CyanogenMod team has a beta build out, very tempting to root and flash it now and not have to wait for 6 months

Great news.  Thanks for sharing.  Since the FCC killed the LightSquared deal yesterday, we may have to wait a little longer for LTE from Sprint.  Having ICS will make holding on to the Photon for a few more months (hopefully not much longer) will make it a bit less painful.

I hope Sprint brings the Galaxy Note as LTE world phone like the Photon.

Hello my name is Veronica i am a Photon user and I LOVE my phone I did the research and if you look at http://motorola.comyou will see that they say CLEARLY THAT THE MOTOROLA PHOTON IN THE USA WILL BE RECIEVING THE 4.0 ICS UPDATEWILL BEGAN ROLLING OUT IN Q4 2012 now when Q4 is idk but if you pay close attention to your phone you will notice when it starts to recieve updates like it will choke on certain things you do and then a few weeks later or have current updates that are ready to update but dont have them on auto update I do believe that it is in Process of rolling out now though.

The exact and direct link to the motorola list is:

https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c

4th quarter (of the year) is sometime in the last three months of the 12 month year.

1st:

Jan

Feb

March

2nd:

April

May

June

3rd:

July

August

September

4th:

October

November

December

That being said, there are other devices on the table listed that are in the process of being updated.  MoPho is in line behind those for the resources required to accomplish the deploy.  Programmers, testers, data servers, and the like.

Delays in other devices prioritized above Photon in the list cause delays downstream.

Judging from past experience, I wouldn't expect deploy before December, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a delay into next year once they find themselves slipping into the holidays.

Only four more days until Q4!  Let's hope the update comes in early Q4 and not late Q4.

Have you visited the link lately or are you joking maybe?

The update has been put on indefinite hold while the newly merged Googlorola decides what to do.

My personal guess is that they are deciding whether to go directly to JB or JB's successor 4.2.

The pessimits are saying that it means that Photon 4g will now get dropped from upgrade plans completely since it will be obsoleted in the largest markets by the LTE signal as it comes online.  The $100 upgrade rebate is meant to soften that blow.

Motoggle doesn't have the resources, and management probably doesn't have the patience to have them upgrade to an already obsolete version of the OS and then have to turn right around and have to update a second time with a potential 4.2 release on the horizon.

Whatever they decide to do, it was NEVER going to happen early in the quarter, and it is more likely to slip to June of 2013 or later now.
