The Nextel National Network (iDEN) will shut down on June 30, 2013

The Nextel National Network (iDEN) will shut down on June 30, 2013, starting at 12:01AM. If you have a device that operates exclusively on the Nextel National Network (iDEN), this means:

  • Beginning at 12:01AM on June 30, your Nextel (iDEN) devices will not be able to make calls, including 9-1-1 calls
  • You will lose your existing phone numbers if you take no action before June 30, 2013. As a result, you will not be able to transfer your current phone numbers to Sprint devices or devices with an alternative wireless carrier
  • You may lose contacts, pictures or other data stored on your Nextel devices All remaining Nextel/iDEN devices will be deactivated on June 30, 2013.

If you have a PowerSource device (ic402, ic502, ic602, ic902) , the push-to-talk feature will stop working on June 30, 2013; the device, however, will continue to make and receive voice phone calls over the Nationwide Sprint Network.  As this is an older technology, we encourage PowerSource customers to move to the Sprint CDMA network.  Also PowerSource devices are no longer supported by Service and Repair and after the network shutdown on 6/30/2013.  Customers will be unable to manage their PowerSource devices via online account management tools.

Don’t wait — When changing phones, the phone number moves to the new phone when the phone is activated.

When you move to CDMA after June 21, we may not be able to ship the CDMA phone in time to have it activated and working before we  shutdown the Nextel  iDEN network.   It takes up to 5 business days to process and ship the order.

Ordering an activated  phone guarantees that your phone number  will move to the CDMA phone before June 30 and you will not loose it.
