There is no coverage in this city. It is not Mexico so why am I paying for roaming when the location is still in the u.s

Not surprising at all. Make sure when reading the coverage map that you understand how the sprint network works. There's 3G/4G - which essentially is the same. Sprints version of "4G" is just a slightly upgraded 3G network. Expect to get average speeds of about 3mbps-8mbps (rare). The LTE plus network is better, but you must be outside in the open pointing your phone at the sky to get the best speeds. Check out Boost mobiles coverage map as it is much easier to identify the different data connection speed areas. I would just adjust to internet that is early 2000's speed, as I and most others have.
