Re: **System OTA Update Thread** Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwhich Nexus S 4G

Its MARCH 13th 2012....And we still have no word, update or even a glimps of hope from Google or Sprint on ICS update for Nexus S 4G.  It was promised for before Christmas launch I believe.

Its obvious that this is not a priority for neither of the companies involved.  I did not include Samsung because this is supposed to be a Google device, controlled and updated by Google.

I am so disappointed and angry that Google and Sprint has completely left us to dry on this.  I regret so much buying this phone thinking I would get ICS.

The whole point for alot of people getting this phone was the promise that this phone will get the latest updates before the thousands of other phones out there for Android.

This is just bad customer service and bad business practice.  This is how you will lose customers... again.

Someone at Sprint please gives us a clear answer to what is going on with the update?  Is there even one coming? When?

Please do not come back to us with another reply from the customer service manual!!!!   We are not stupid so stop telling us the obvious.

Why in the world is everyone in panic mode like the world ends in a week?

What does ICS do that your current Gingerbread doesn't?

Oh wait, I believe battery life is better.

Other than that is your phone working properly?

Are all the apps working as they should without locking up?

I have gone through several upgrades and they all haven't been as pleasant as I would have liked.

I would rather have Google properly test ICS and have all their developers get their programs compatible with ICS before it is released.

I remember the nightmare that occurred when I went from Froyo to Gingerbread on my EVO 4G.

Several of my favorite, used every day apps NO LONGER WORKED.

Then I wasn't a happy camper and called Sprint and HTC making all kinds of wild threats.

It took around 2 months to have all the app updates roll out that made my phone stable again.

That is what is happening right now.

Sprint and Google learned that if they do an OTA upgrade and it hasn't been properly tested thousands will call.

These people (that would be everyone complaining) will not be happy and make threats and froth at the mouth (like you are doing on this forum). Frankly if I were Sprint I would rather have you vent on a forum than have to talk to you because the bottom-line is if ICS had already rolled out things would not be perfect. Things would have to be fixed.

It's not that Sprint and Google doesn't love you they just want your phone to work when ICS finally comes out.

That is the logical reason why you haven't received your update yet. Patience is a virtue. Just calmly wait and soon you will forget all about this unpleasant experience.

BTW

I have an HTC 3D and I have been informed I too get an ICS upgrade. I daily hit the upgrade button but so far nothing. Because my phone works great right now I am not dying or venting to anyone because of the reasons listed above.

I am very happy with my Nexus S 4g as is.. no problems.  When the update comes, it comes. Stop whining about your ICS update!!

No, locks up almost daily with 2.3.7. These lock ups often happen at night so I wake up to an overheating phone with many missed messages and calls. Gets stuck on the animation at boot time. Doesn't update PRL properly.

Battery life sucks. Signal is abysmal. Multitasking sucks.

You can't easily shutdown an application in Gingerbread..

These are all things that ICS addresses to some degree or other. I'm sure you can use google to educate yourself on the additional differences.

If you don't want it now, then don't upgrade. Just like that shill Buffet - if he wants to pay more taxes, he's free to pay a 100% tax rate. Choice is what matters. Stop encouraging the taking of choice away from others. Everybody's situation is different in such a complex ecosystem.

> Are all the apps working as they should without locking up?

Not even close.

@MeatMan69 - What does ICS do that Gingerbread doesn't you ask? For one the ICS stock web browser works better than any other mobile web browser in existence. It's by far the fastest. Even with Adobe Flash turned off it doesn't take much for Gingerbread's browser to get bogged down to the point where it's unusable.

Dear Wanderer2012,

In my experience as a computer tech, a phone tech, a technology enthusiast, and a Geek Squad agent, I have had much more experience with the Google Android (bullshit Java) operating system than you.

It is perfectly clear that you have no idea how a phone is supposed to function and in your experience, you have indeed downloaded and installed a virus.

I have been happily using my stock NS4G for a little over a year, and only once had it freeze up on me. As have thousands of other users.

Why don't you simply reboot your phone to MFG, and stop downloading porn apps.

Sincerely,

Perfectly Content

Re: **System OTA Update Thread** Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwhich Nexus S 4G

Elliot,

I'm glad YOU are having a "Perfectly Content" experience with Sprint's 2.3.7 build. Others of us are NOT. You'll note I never said you're having a bad experience. You are probably one of the idiots that thinks the government is here to help you and everyone is exactly the same.

Obviously, you don't have the basic skills necessary to keep consistent employment in technical support. You seem to jump to irrational conclusions. Perhaps you should run for Congress. Seriously, I will point out that you don't know who you're interacting with on the message forums.

I am rapidly coming to belive that stock android ROMs are for stoned windows techs. Clearly, if I want a good experience with a reasonale release cycle, I am going to have to go with a custom ROM like CyanogenMod9 or Nuhetri-Reloaded.

I've been waiting far too long for the mainstream release of ICS by Sprint. This is the same reason people pirate movies rather than wait 1-year for them to show up on DVD on a streaming service.

Re: **System OTA Update Thread** Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwhich Nexus S 4G

HAHA. agree 100% with Elliotbateman, i've used many many android devices from different manufacturers on multiple carriers, as well as a palm pre, windows mobile, iphone, etc. and the nexus s is by FAR the smoothest UI i have ever used, even compared to dual core phones...been using my nexus s since may 2011 as well as 4 other nexus s 4gs in my household and have not had any problems with any of them, ever. as for ICS...i love how people think they are actually making progress by posting on these forums...from the population of nexus s users, probably 5% even know what ICS stands for, of that 5%, probably another 5% are in this forum, which means you account for a grand total of ...50 people lol. ics won't drop for nexus s 4g until it's ready folks. perhaps htc and samsung can release it to global markets because they don't need to worry about 4g functionality and compatibility. Looking at the ridiculously expensive rates at VERIZON i would love to meet someone who actually DID dump sprint's low-cost plan for VZW based solely on lack of ICS confirmation for nexus s from sprint...after using this device and having access to google's ICS source code for rom developers for the last several months, I can confidently say my future phones will ALWAYS be nexus brand devices.

Re: **System OTA Update Thread** Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwhich Nexus S 4G

Hey, Idiot,

Assumptions about other people we don't know just make us look foolish. I'm glad you were kind enough to show us your ignorance. One can hold many positions within one career with one employer, also, it is common for individuals in the technology field to hold multiple positions at the same time. Especially when side jobs that only last a few months pay significantly more.

The primary reason Sprint releases it's stock updates is so the phone they are selling works. If you are inclined to install a "cracked" OS, you, in addition to slightly increasing your battery life, are also opening up the phone to system halts, overloaded RAM, and of course, overheating that can result in a very expensive paperweight. If you want to complain to anyone, tell your CyanogenMod9 friends how much you hate your phone's inability to run something it wasn't intended to.

Oh, wait, it is included in their disclaimer that these things might occur?! That's crazy! I wouldn't have guessed that your phone might react that way when it says right there it might. Well shoot. You've got me beat.

P.S. Pirating is in line with free share of logical information. Custom ROM's are simply fun "customizations." Two completely different ideas.

Re: **System OTA Update Thread** Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwhich Nexus S 4G

We crazy "MotherPhoners" all know sprint will release the update when the company is good and ready. It all comes down to the mighty dollar and being competitive.  FYI: there will be a Google Nexus thinga-ma-bob next year, and yes we will once again blow up the forums with all complaints and testimonies.  In the mean time, and in between time, how about we wait and keep our cool. There's nothing we can do anyway.   However, It would be a pleasant surprise to get a representative from Sprint to at least say "HI" in this forum thread.

Kind Regards,

A NexusS4g user

Master

Re: **System OTA Update Thread** Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwhich Nexus S 4G
