So, called up sprint yesterday. Asked to pay off phone 443 789 6125. Gave me confirmation number. Requested that the phone be unlocked, no problem. Gave me a confirmation number for that.
10 hours later, I get an email

The requirements for unlock not only include an up to date account, the phone payoff must be billed. Since the phone was just paid off yesterday, it won't become eligible until after the bill cycle ends. The payment to cancel the lease and the lease cancellation will both be on the next statement. Once it's printed, then we can revisit the unlock eligibility.
Also, to verify, the phone has been active for longer than 50 days, correct?
So the 'PAY THIS and own it today' is just BS. And the agent who took the call was just lying again.

Technically, you own it, since there won't be any more payments attached to it. I understand your frustration, unfortunately, this is the policy. I'll be happy to review the unlock eligibility the day after your bill cycle ends.
