In some cases the Swype keyboard may be disabled with the ICS/FF18 (MR3) upgrade if a you have added words to the dictionary prior to the upgrade. You may see the following Swype error message presented along with a blank black box for the swype keyboard.
SOLUTION: Clear storage in the Swype application using this path: Settings > Applications > All tab > Swype > Clear data
Thank you for making this a featured thread. I know many are complaining about this or that, but I think it helps to have known solutions to problems where people can easily find them.
I had this problem since this morning too (night here now). Spending many hours this day, getting frustrated with Samsung and Sprint "Android Specialists" not "knowing there was a problem!"
The last guy at Sprint actually told me to perform a Hard Reset to fix it!!! Wowsa Yowsa, no way.
OK, soapbox over- the problem description and fix were dead-on correct. Thanks for posting this [somewhere] where normal people who have to figure out their own solutions. They need to fire all tech support that can't really help people (and hire these people for big money).
The clear data box is greyed out for me - and all the lines read "computing". My only choice is disable. Does anyone else have this?
Thank you for the post! I feared spending hours on the phone with Sprint. In case anyone else is worried about doing this because you don't want to lose all your messages, they all were still there.
Thank you for figuring out how to fix my swype keyboard!!! I have been having this problem all morning and didn't want to have to talk to support to figure it out. Thank you sprint community.
DW4538- I had the same thing happening to me. I then checked in my music and all my songs were gone and also photos saved on the SD card were gone. I restarted the phone and waited while it had the media scanner running. Then all my apps on the SD card came back as did photos & music. I checked back into the Skype app and it no longer said computing and I was able to use this work around. Try restarting your phone.
So is there any Swype keyboard for ICS that has the numbers in the middle vs the top row? I really liked the GB swype keyboard.
