Just got my Epic this past weekend, and I live in Chicago where supposedly there's pretty good 4G coverage. However, I've yet to go into 4G mode. I turn off WiFi as the phone instructs, and when I try and turn it on under Settings, it says "Turning on..." for about 30 seconds, and then it stays off with the word "Unknown."
Has anyone else experienced this, or have any ideas how to get the 4G to turn on? Thanks in advance.
If your 4G market is like mine (Honolulu), it does not cover the entire metropolitan area. I work about 30 miles west of where I live. Once I travel about 10 miles west, 4G coverage becomes spotty. The Epic seems to spend an inordinate amount of time & battery looking for the 4G network. I usually turn off 4G during the work day, this also saves battery life so it helps something else. Also I find 4G very inconsistent connecting when you are deep in the building, away from the windows.
Is this worth the $10 surcharge? I rationalize by saying with it the total cost is still less than 3G coverage by Verizon!
