froyo 2.2 now on epic?

As of yesterday 09/08/10 my sprint store rep.  told me that the epic now has froyo 2.2.  It was too late to go to the store but this guy has been on point with all of my issues throughout  the years and was especially sensitive to my issue with the moment only having 2.1 and not supporting direct headset voice commands.  So, I think I'll stop by the store and check it out for myself. If this is true, sprint might want to update their website information.

According to SamsungUK's Twitter post, froyo is due out this month on all networks.

SamsungUK will always talk about devices in Europe, and not the US.  SamsungUS will have to say something to make that article valid.

This is how rumors get started and people believe a promise exists when the topic doesn't have anything to do with the devices that matter.

To help clarify that Froyo is not available for the Epic and there will be just maintenance releases at this time, check out this article released on September 23.

Has anyone seen this post about the Froyo update for the Epic?

http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Mobile-and-Wireless/Samsung-Galaxy-S-Android-22-Upgrade-Android-30-Loom-644099/

Is there any truth in it?

No, the epic isn't officially getting froyo just yet. Far as I know, the source keys were released for android developers on Wednesday. Otherwise, ONLY rooted phones can get the download early...But im sure its not the complete rom...

Well then what about this link?

http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/15/galaxy-s-android-2-2-froyo-update-begins-to-trickle-out/

Come on now, all of these can't be lies.

Update is available for European, generic versions of the phone. This means it IS getting closer for the Epic but it is not here yet and could be a long time. It all depends on what Sprint needs/plans to change in the upgrade. Hopefully we will get bugfixes for other issues with the phone as I am betting this might be the last update for a while. I would much rather they get this right before kicking it out the door, then do what they have repeatedly done with the Moment where the updates caused more problems than they fixed.

Froyo Update for the Galaxy S is Delayed

October 22nd, 2010 by Best Mobile Contracts

http://www.blog.best-mobile-contracts.co.uk/2010/10/froyo-update-for-the-galaxy-s-is-delayed.html

Galaxy S Delayed

It has already been said that one of the best Android smart phones to be released this year is the Samsung Galaxy S. The smart phone from the Korean phone maker has managed to outdo even the HTC Desire and the Nexus One which is a pretty big feat considering that the Nexus One was developed directly by Google and that HTC has a long history with the Android operating system.

Samsung UK has confirmed that the new official launch date for the Froyo update is on November, so those waiting for 2.2 Froyo will not have to wait that long.

In other Samsung related news, the Galaxy Tab touch screen tablet has been confirmed to be heading to Tesco. The electronics retailer has already confirmed that they have the handset ready as they have already opened up pre-order slots. For those hesitating about the price tag of the Android, expect the price to match up against the Apple iPad. In the meanwhile, anyone hoping to get the tablet early might want to get into the pre-order queue as soon as possible.

Android OS 2.2 Upgrade for Samsung Epic 4G, Captivate, Vibrant, Fascinate Available by the End of November

By Ed Hardy, Brighthand.com Editor | 10/2

Samsung has started upgrading all the models in its Galaxy S series to Android OS 2.2. The company now says this process will be finished by the end of next month. The upgrade will bring a number of enhancements, including support for Adobe Flash and a fix for the GPS problems that plague these smartphones.

Samsung Vibrant from T-MobileThis company promised months ago bring to the latest version of Google's operating system to the Samsung Epic 4G from Sprint, the Samsung Captivate from AT&T,  the Samsung Fascinate from Verizon, and the Samsung Vibrant from T-Mobile, but users of these devices are still waiting.

Samsung has now set itself a deadline. A post on Twitter from its U.K. subsidiary says, "We expect all operator versions to be available by the end of November."

New in Android OS 2.2 (Froyo)

The latest version of Google's mobile operating system is required for devices to run Adobe Flash Player 10.1, which allows the web browser to fully make use of websites that use Flash for navigation, games, and showing video.

This Android OS 2.2 upgrade also contains a number of other enhancements, such as faster performance thanks to a new JIT compiler and the ability to store applications on a removable memory card.

In addition, this system software upgrade will include a fix for a bug that sometimes causes the Galaxy S models to be unable to get a GPS lock.
