By default, your device’s Wi-Fi feature is turned off. Turning Wi-Fi on makes your device able to discover and connect to compatible in-range WAPs. Turn Wi-Fi on: Press > and tap > Wireless and network > Wi-Fi settings. Tap the Wi-Fi field to activate the feature (green checkmark indicates active). The device scans for available in-range wireless networks. To turn Wi-Fi off: Press > and tap > Wireless and network > Wi-Fi settings > Wi-Fi. Tap to remove the green checkmark and deactivate Wi-Fi.- or - Touch and hold the Status bar, and then slide your finger down the screen. Tap the onscreen Wi-Fi icon to turn off the Wi-Fi service (turns gray when disabled). Note Use of wireless data connections such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth can cause an added drain to your battery and reduce your use times. To connect to a Wi-Fi network: Press > and tap > Wireless and network > Wi-Fi settings. The network names and security settings (Open network or Secured with xxx) of detected Wi-Fi networks are displayed in the Wi-Fi networks section. Note When you select an opennetwork, you will be automatically connected to thenetwork. To manually add your new network connection: Touch Add Wi-Fi network. Enter the Network SSID. This is the name of your Wi-Fi network. Tap the Security field and select a security option. This must match the current security setting on your target network. If secured, you will also need to enter the wireless password. The show password option, reveals the password as you type it instead of showing only asterisks (****). Tap Save to store the new information and connect to the Wi-Fi network. Note The next time your device connects to a previously accessed or secured wirelessnetwork, you are not prompted to enter the wireless password again, unless you reset your device back to its factory default settings. To manually scan for a Wi-Fi network: Press > and tap > Wireless and network > Wi-Fi settings. Press and tap Scan.

Device Samsung Epic 4G Resolution The time may appear incorrectly becuase Daylight Saving Time must be configured manually in the AccuWeather Clock widget. To adjust the DST settings: 1.    After adding the widget to a home screen, tap Select city 2.    Enter the name of your city and tap the Search button. 3.    If multiple search results are returned, tap the correct city/state. 4.    From the homescreen, tap the city name again. 5.    Press the Menu key. 6.    Tap Set DST. 7.    Tap the city name to set the correct DST mode. If the sun icon is displayed, the clock will be set one hour foward. If no icon is displayed, the clock is set for one hour back. 8.    Tap Done, and then press the Home key.

Can I send a text to a group of my contacts on the Samsung Epic 4G? Yes, text messages can be sent to contact groups using the Samsung Epic 4G. 1.    From the home screen, tap Contacts 2.    Tap Groups. 3.    Tap the desired group. 4.    Tap the Menu key. 5.    Tap Send Message. 6.    Tap the desired contacts and then tap Send. To forward a text message to more than one person: 1.    In the message, tap the To 2.    Tap the To box again and enter any additional contacts. Note: Third party options may be available via Android Market.

Can I send text or picture messages to multiple recipients? Yes, the ability to send group sms or mms messages is supported on the Epic 4G. To field While composing a new message, enter any combination of phone numbers, email addresses, or contact names in the To field, separating each entry with a comma. Contact groups If the user has organized their contacts into groups, the Epic 4G makes it easy to access and send messages to specific users within each group. To select contacts from groups: 1.    Tap Contacts 2.    Tap the Groups tab. 3.    Tap Phone or Google. 4.    Tap and hold the desired group of contacts. 5.    Tap Send message. 6.    Tap to select each recipient. 7.    Tap Send. 8.    Compose the group message and add attachments if desired. 9.    Tap Send.

The battery icon in the status bar does not reflect the actual charge level Problem A number of users have reported that the battery indicator in the status bar does not appear to accurately report the actual charge level. Environment Samsung Epic 4G Resolution At this time there is not a system related fix for the battery indicator. As a workaround solution, there are many free battery widget options that can be downloaded from the Android Market that can offer a more precise battery power level.

How can I delete bookmarks in Android? The following steps detail the process to remove bookmarks from the Android default web browser.  For other Internet browsers the steps should be similar, but may vary somewhat. Removing bookmarks: 1.    Tap the Internet or Browser icon on the home screen, or in the applications menu. 2.    Press the Menu key and tap Bookmarks. 3.    Tap and hold the bookmark to be removed. 4.    Swipe up on the list and tap Delete bookmark. 5.    Tap OK to confirm the removal.

This is most commonly caused when the user inadvertently mutes the audio or turns the volume down.  If the following solutions do not work, check whether the handset has a task killer installed.  The user will need to ensure that the text to speech utility (Pico TTS) is not being disabled. Unmuting the Navigation app: 1.    From the home screen, tap Applications. 2.    Swipe left or right to the screen containing Navigation. 3.    Tap Navigation. 4.    Tap the Menu key. 5.    Tap Unmute to turn the voice on. Adjust the Navigation app volume: 1.    From the home screen of the Navigation app, press up on the Volume key to ensure the audio is at the desired level.

Occasionally apps are not able to be downloaded successfully.  The following are some basic steps that may help correct issues that arise. Market is stuck on “Starting Download” 1.    Confirm that the Android handset is connected to data (Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G). 2.    If downloading a paid application, check to confirm the payment information is correct. 3.    Ensure the handset is logged into Google Talk. Note: Tap Talk from the applications menu.  The application will login automatically. 4.    Restart the handset and try the download again. Download unsuccessful 1.    Restart the handset and try the download again. 2.    Confirm data connectivity (Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G). 3.    Wait 10-15 minutes and try to download the application again. Unknown error -18 1.    Ensure important files (pictures, music, media, documents) are backed up. 2.    From the homescreen press the Menu key. 3.    Tap Settings. 4.    Tap SD & phone storage. 5.    Tap Unmount SD card. 6.    Tap Format SD card. 7.    Read the warning message and tap Format SD card. 8.    Read the warning message and tap Erase everything. ••9.    Try to download the application again.

Applications purchased through the website are downloaded directly to the Android device. Amazon Appstore The Amazon appstore is a second option for purchasing and downloading applications. App purchases are billed through the user’s Amazon account. The appstore may be downloaded directly from the Amazon website (www.amazon.com). Non-market apps Some applications bypass the markets and are offered directly from the publisher. Before these apps can be installed, the Android handset must be configured to allow the installation of non-market applications. To allow installation of non-market apps: 1.    From the home screen, press the Menu key. 2.    Tap Settings 3.    Tap Applications 4.    Ensure the Unknown sources option is checked.

What is the “Media Hub”? The Media Hub is a video store application available on the Samsung Epic 4G.  You can rent or purchase TV shows and movies optimized for a handset screen and an HD-like experience.  You have up to 30 days to view the movies and shows you have rented and all of the media can be viewed and managed on up to 5 devices per account.  Movies and TV shows can be viewed almost immediatly without having to wait for the entire file to download. Note: You must have software version S:D700.05S.DI07 or higher on the device. To check the software version on the Samsung Epic 4G: 1. From the home screen, tap Menu. 2. Tap Settings. 3. Scroll to and tap About phone. The software version will be listed under Build number and Baseband version. To update the software version on the Samsung Epic 4G: 1. From the home screen, tap Menu. 2. Tap Settings. 3. Scroll to and tap About phone. 4. Tap System updates. 5. Tap Update Android. Your phone will automatically download and install any available updates; you may need to power your phone off and back on to complete the software upgrade.

Can I transfer files to and from the Epic 4G using a Mac computer? Can I transfer files to and from the Epic 4G using a Mac computer? Yes, both USB and Bluetooth can be used to connect the Epic 4G to a Mac computer.  To mount the Epic 4G as a drive, and enable Mass Storage mode, ensure USB debugging is disabled as follows: Disable USB debugging mode: 1.    From the home screen, press the Menu key and tap Settings 2.    Tap Applications. 3.    Tap Development. 4.    Ensure USB debugging is not checked. 5.    Press the Home key. 6.    Connect the USB cable. 7.    Tap Mass Storage and the Epic 4G will display as an available drive.

Problem The user receives Error Code 67 Registration failure when trying to enable the Sprint Mobile Hotspot. The exact error message is as follows: Error Code 67. Registration failure. Your PCS Vision user name and/or password may be incorrect. Please try again. Environment Android handset with Sprint Hotspot installed Sprint Mobile Hotspot feature (29.99/month)  Resolution This error message is displayed if the user enables the Sprint Hotspot, yet does not have the Sprint Mobile Hot package on their account.  If the account is provisioned correctly, and they still receive the error, the user should try to update the data profile on the handset.

Airplane mode randomly enables and cannot be turned off Problem Airplane mode randomly enables and cannot be turned off. Attempting to toggle airplane mode does not function. Environment Samsung Epic 4G Samsung Moment Resolution There is no known resolution at this time. As a workaround, while the device is powered on, pull out the battery. Re-insert the battery and power back on the device. This should disable airplane mode. Note: Ensure the device has the most recent software update as well. Qik video chat won’t connect on the Samsung Epic 4G. Problem Qik video chat won’t connect on the Samsung Epic 4G. It is stuck on “Establishing connection.” Environment Samsung Epic 4G Qik application Resolution 1.    Ensure the Samsung Epic 4G software is up-to-date and the Qik Video is the most recent version in Android Market. 2.    Both users must have signed up for a Qik account and be logged in to their account on their mobile device. 3.    When placing the call, either type the recipient’s Qik Username in the search/call box or type their mobile number starting with the number 1. Dialing direct from the Username is the most effective way to make the call. If dialing from the contacts list, ensure the following: 1.    The contact name is the same name as the Qik Username. 2.    There is a 1 at the beginning of the contact’s number. 3.    The Qik number is set to the default number in the contact. If all of these steps are followed and the recipient is still not receiving the call, the Qik app may have gone idle. Ask the recipient to open the Qik application, select Video Chat, and ensure the green light is on beside their Qik Username. Then attempt the call again. When signed into a Google account with an Android handset, Google can automatically sync Contacts, Gmail, and Calendar events. Applications downloaded from the Android Market will have to be downloaded again. Purchased apps may be downloaded again for no additional cost, as long as the same Google account is used. A complete list of previously downloaded apps may be accessed by logging into the Market website from a computer (market.android.com). The website may also be used to quickly resend apps to the handset. Additionally, many apps have a built in backup or restore function. Phone contacts can be exported to the SD card and imported back to the handset after a master reset. There are many third party apps available to backup settings, apps, contacts, and more.  If using a third party app to back up, after a master reset, the third party app will need to be re-downloaded from the Market to restore any information. To ensure Sync is ON: 1.    From the home screen, tap or press the Menu key. 2.    Tap Settings. 3.    Tap Accounts & sync. 4.    Ensure Auto-sync is checked. 5.    Tap the Google account. 6.    Ensure the boxed is checked for each desired sync item. To export phone contacts to the SD card: 1.    From the home screen, tap Contacts or People. 2.    Tap or press the Menu key. 3.    Tap Import/Export. 4.    Tap Export to SD card. 5.    Tap OK. Note: If prompted to select an account to export, tap Phone.

Does the Samsung Epic 4G have signal lock and innacurate GPS location? Issue Some users have reported that GPS in the Epic 4G is slow to get a signal lock, and frequently returns inaccurate location information.   The issue does not appear to affect all Epic 4G users. Users may wish to occasionally transfer images and video clips from their Android handset to a computer for permanent storage, or to create additional space for new images on the MicroSD storage card.  To following steps detail the transfer process: Transferring images and video: 1.          Connect the Android handset to a computer with a MicroUSB cable. 2.          Tap Mass Storage if prompted to select a USB Mode. Note: If the USB Mode prompt does not appear, drag the notification bar down and tap USB connected. Then tap Mount or Turn on USB storageand Ok. 3.          On the computer, click the Open folder option when the Removable Disk prompt displays. A.          If the Removable Disk prompt does not appear, open My Computer and look for a removable disk drive. B.          On Mac computers, the drive will install on the desktop, simply click the drive to open. 4.          Double click to open the DCIM folder. 5.          Double click to open the Camera folder. 6.          Select the images to be copied and drag them to the desired folder on the computer. 7.          Once the images are copied, they can be deleted from the Camera folder to create additional space for new images.
