I have never heard of a push out date that is so extensive. Maybe they have a lot of S3's to get to? I don't know. I guess it'll get here when it gets here, but god am I impatient. Haha.
I feel like I am waiting for Christmas...
Not even sure exactly what this update is going to do for my phone??
POSSIBLE TIP TO PUSH LG8 UPDATE!!?
IT WORKED FOR ME!
Go to settings... App mgr... All programs...... Google framework. Clear cashed and Data!
Go back to home screen.....
Good to settings..... Check software update..... Hit Samsung Software Update..
From Sprint tech... This worked for me!!
sprntgek's process worked for me, with a slight addition.
1. Settings -> Applications manager -> [All]
2. Google Services Framework -> [Clear data]
- Clear cache not enabled, 0.00B
At this point Samsung Software Update and Firmware Update still did nothing.
Reboot. Still nothing. Didn't have same experience as sprntgek here.
3. Back to Google Services Framework -> [Clear data] & [Force stop]
4. Settings -> Applications manager -> [All] -> Google Play Store -> [Clear data] & [Force stop]
The very second I hit that last [Force stop] on the Google Play Store, I got a pop-up dialog telling me that there was an update available for my system. It proceeded to install L710VPALG8.
I went about it this way after reading sprntgek's post because the GSF and the GPS are very closely linked.
I've been looking for this update for many days, thanks!
(Note, if you still have problems getting it, you know it's been available as a .zip (at least for LG2 -> LG8) since July 26th? Google lg2_to_lg8. Caveat emptor.)
THANK YOU FOR CATCHING THAT!!! Oops!
I missed that IMPORTANT STEP in process!!!!
Glad it worked for you too!!
sprntgek, I did what you suggested and it worked! I'm kinda nervous to see how the battery life goes...but I figured I would get the update one way or another and since I've got a day off why not go ahead and do it. So far, it works just fine it seems like...I noticed the keyboard changed and they added a screen brightness adjuster thingy on the pull down menu. But as long as my battery life stays awesome like it is/was I'm fine with those changes!
Thanks for the info regarding the second step (Google play store) that's what did it for me, on top of the OP's original directions of course .
Battery life is worse. I and many other users now cannot stream music from pandora or the native youtube app. Please fix the battery drain and the ability to stream content via the youtube or pandora apps.
