It is being reported that this work around doesn't stick after a reboot of the phone.  You'll have to reinstall the .apk after you reboot the phone until a better solution is found.  Or if Google stops being such a baby and actually mans up and fights Apple on this ridiculous patent.  They're a search company for the love of jehova!

you can go to that link on your phone directly and download.  (a simple way to accomplish this is to install the Chrome to Phone extension and use the Chrome browser, then with a click of a button, you're sending the page to your phone)

Or you can download to your computer, mount phone like a flash drive, then move the .apk into the internal or SD card storage -> doesn't matter where.

Step 2: make sure you have "Install from unknown sources" box checked (go to Menu -> Security -> check the box)

Step 3: go to the app on your phone called "My Files".  navigate to the .apk on your storage whereever you put it in Step 1. click on it and install.

Alternatively, you can always email .apk(s) to your self, then in your gmail on your phone, it'll have a handy little "install" button below the attachment.

So there are many ways to skin this cat.

Ok I will do that. Thank you!

Also, like I said I am new to android, how do I install it? Is it just as easy as connecting my phone to the computer and dragging it on? Does it go in a certain folder?

Thanks again.

So am I better off just not updating my phone? Any downside to ignoring it?

I am new to sprint/android, will it just keep harassing me to update or can I just ignore it and update it when there is an update that actually has benefits to it?

It will keep harassing you to update your phone.  If you do take the update, just follow my link, download the .apk and install it after you've upgraded.  It'll bring back the universal search feature.  I'm pretty sure, from reports I have heard, that this .apk is the only thing changed in the LG2 update for this phone.

I plan to ignore it for as long as I can, but I've already downloaded the old .apk.  People are reporting this works to fix the "security update" they've forced upon us.

Looks like Google Search bar no longer searches anything on the phone.  This comes on the heels of the Apple patent lawsuit against the search feature.  Not sure what else has changed, but I'm also noticing that the Sprint Connection Manager service no longer is running in the background regardless of how the check box is marked in its settings.

yes, this appears to be true and I figured as much that this was what was happening.  Go to xda and install the old search box apk here to fix it.  Don't need root or anything.

Pretty sick of Google pandering to these jag.offs at Apple
