Can anyone tell me if the new WiFi Calling feature on my Galaxy S5 will be good enough to replace my AirRave? If so, I just spend over $100 to get the AirRave for nothing!

antient.traveler If you are using the Wi-Fi calling app to make calls, the Airave would not be needed as it would bypass the connecting and make the call without needing the Airave. Hope this helps, let me know if you need anything else. Roxana Sprint Social Care

We are happy to help you out. How long ago did you get the Airave? One of the main difference between the two is if you are on a WiFi call and leave the WiFi area the call will drop. This will not happen with the Airave. Also, Wifi calling can vary depending on the data speeds you are getting from the Wifi signal. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I got the AirRave less than a month ago. My wife would primarily use WiFi calling in the house when connected to our home network. Would it be worth using the WiFi Calling App over the AirRave?

WiFi calling should be better then Airave (technically), I have not tested it in a phone yet. If you had issues in your house, I wonder why you had to pay for the airave?

Also, @ Patrick, The call drop is true for the Airave too. Every time I leave my house, my calls drop.

someone mentioned using google voice i believe. but instead of using the google voice number use your phones actual number...i'll have to see if i can locate what was posted to make sure this is what they were saying though..but if this IS the case i should be able to use it with my One.

Hi antient.traveler,

I just changed to the S5 and was using HTC One prior with Airave. Even with Airwave I would occasionally find that the call placed would not be with the Airwave and drop or cut in and out. For the WiFi calling got the S5 and works great and have unplugged my Airwave. Also as Dj mentioned the Airwave will drop call also when leaving the house on a call.

Hello I am a Tech and I am not 100% sure on what one is better however I can say this. the 1st post on here states that if you leave from the WIFI calling area that the call will terminate this is true. However it also goes on to say that if you are using the AIRAVE and leave the area that it will connect you to a tower is NOT true! In both cases the call will terminate. I know this 100% because I have the AIRAVE AND I HVAE WIFI CALLING BOTH THE SAME AND BOTH TERMINATE THE CALL WHEN LEAVING THE SIGNAL AREA.
