Instinct and Instinct s30 Maintenance Release Postponed:

This just in from Instinct team:

The Instinct and Instinct s30 Maintenance Release software upgrades to CD17 and CE19 will be temporarily unavailable while we investigate some unforeseen reported 3rd party application issues. Customers that have downloaded these new software versions may experience temporary problems using Pandora and other 3rd Party Java downloadable applications.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and hope to have this matter resolved quickly. Once the issue has been resolved the Maintenance Releases will be reposted and available for customers at that time.

You're 100% correct about the MR releases. There is not enough testing by Sprint (if at all) before they release the updates. The funny thing about this is it's all in the perception, and is mainly a PR issue. Sprint makes the updates available for at least a week or so before pushing it to the phone. Why is this? My guess is because they want only a few people installing the update and basically beta test it before they release it publicly. That sounds like a solid idea, and if Sprint would spin it as that I'm sure everyone's attitude would be different when problems are found. Can you imagine the scenario:

New stickied post from mod: "Instinct MR-6 available for beta testing. If you would like to be a tester please install the update. Report any problems in this thread."

So you download it and find it breaks Pandora. How do you feel about it? Outraged? Probably not, because it's beta, and you knew going in there may be problems. Actually, you feel pretty good because you found a problem and are able to help Sprint.

Obviously this doesn't stop people from being upset about missing features, but it does help Sprint's image a little and would show that Sprint does indeed value their customers feedback. It's all a matter of perception, and Sprint is terrible in this area.

As far as installing a different OS, that would be nice but think about it from Sprint's (or any carrier's) point of view. How difficult would that be, having some customers with Sprint OS and others with Andriod or TouchWiz or Winmo... all on the same hardware? Remember they all have to be ported and tested with the hardware before release. Providing tech support for that would be an absolute nightmare. I just don't see that option coming to the user in the near future. One handset, one OS will be status quo for a long time.
