I went to the google maps site www.google.com/gmm and it offered a download for the first time in many months, the version it installs is 2.2.0 #2212. still no GPS functionality unfortunatley.
2.2.0 is the same version that has always worked on the Instinct. Still, it's good that they are offering it for download so users don't have to dig it up on other sites.
I downloaded this version and installed it. When I ran it for the first time, I got a prompt saying the newest version is 2.3.2 and to upgrade now, click Upgrade. Clicking upgrade started the browser, but then quickly jumped to my web bookmarks screen. And nothing upgraded or loaded in the browser. Anyone else experience this? Is there really a newer version out there?
I was successful downloading the update, and got past the agreement screen, but it was still at version 2.2.0. I guess the 2.3.2 download did not install correctly. It would be so nice to have a fully functional version of Google Maps. Wishful thinking I guess!
the Google Maps v2.3.2 that is actually made for thr MotoRokr E6 on the Getjar site works perfectly with the instinct. sometimes freezes in street view but not bad....does not work with gps with out the policy hack which I do not recommend doing. if you have the hack in place....do not delete Google Maps, it will brick your phone, however deleting will not brick if you have not changed the policy
Would you post the download code? I selected the Rokr E6 version and it gave me 2.2.0 with no street view.
I found the Motorola ROKR E6 version 2.3.2 at http://www.google.com/gmm/gmm.jad?make=Motorola&model=ROKR-E6&ver=v2.3.2
sorry, I pointed you in the wrong direction, forgot that I actually used the same link as BobG directly from Google for this version
New development, if I go to http://www.google.com/gmm, it downloads the instinct version 2.2.0, BUT if I manually type in http://www.google.com/gmm/gmm.jad?make=Samsung&model=SPH-M800&ver=v2.3.2 it downloads the instinct version 2.3.2
