It's not *completely* inaccurate - we are updating the Moment, it will be to 2.1 (as already announced via Twitter months ago).
Will it be 2-22? Can't say. First Half 2010 is all we can say.
Will it be OTA, PC Download or In Store only? Can't say. You'll find out more here, on Support.sprint.com and via Twitter once it is ready to roll.
It would be nice if there was at least consistency between the various "Sprint Employees" and the admins. Seriously, the OTA issue has been mentioned several times for both the Hero and the Moment and the response by "Sprint Employees" has been that OTA was unlikely. They are hoping to create a tool so users can do it at home.
It's just my opinion but at first glance that's not a very good article. It is well known that we are going to rollout 2.1 for the Moment, so that's not a new revelation. To me the intent of the article is to predict the impending release and I felt I should set the expectation. Many folks have expressed they are confused and they get conflicting information or no information/silence and they have been given promises that go unfulfilled. Just look at the comments following that article from folks who are certainly going to be disappointed even if it has been tagged as unofficial.
Yes, the target date is still 1H2010 and while I don't intend to address all future posts containing future date predictions, I feel it is necessary to disclaim the end of February rumored date. Customers who read that article should not hope that the 2.1 software will be available so please don't call the stores, please don't call Customer Care, please don't call Samsung taking a chance on the software.
Instead, monitor the situation here. This is your best source for data, I promised I would return from time to time with some updates and anyone who believes that know that if the software was that close to launching, I would have posted about it (basically means I am "coming back with an update as we get closer"). So I'm sorry I had to be so strong with my characterization of that article but with the high expectations for this update and I wanted to make sure this didn't go anywhere. No software for neither Moment nor Hero on 2/22, sorry. Please be patient and check back here.
Maybe the anonymous source is thinking the customer download software tool availability, which I'm hoping to have that out next week. It will allow your to upgrade your Momemt to CL14 at home instead of going to the store. Late next week.
Also I have no plans to release version 2.1 for the Moment without this tool. OTA or not? Hasn't be finalised but not likely.
Good point, I need to take time out to meet with the other folks on this forum since I'm new here. I don't think we have said anything vastly different or conflicting but yes, it's a good idea. We probably won't have the same opinion about external sources and external comments across the Internet; sometimes I find it interesting that some posters in other forums post like "Samsung received the software on Friday and they gave it to...." or "Sprint doesn't want....." they are really only guessing but I don't comment on those points. Hope this helps.
Sorry for being so long I really need to shorten my posts.
Ken and Will, long or short - I appreciate you taking the time to provide updates here. I suspect you have one or two other things to do during your day.
What I want to understand is how come it is so difficult to come out with this tool? We have all seen the videos and the tool they are using for the device is the same tool we use to update our Windows Mobile devices. So flashing a rom doesnt seem like a huge issue to me. I also want to know what is your process for notifying the stores about these updates. Dont you find it embarrasing that the majority of your CORPORATE locations didn't know about the update right away? Good customer service would require you to train your employees AHEAD of time rather than rush release. I really hope the 2.1 update will be smooth as in the day you announce it I can download it.

That would be totally awesome as well. I'm the Senior QA Engineer in a software company so I think it's easier for me to sit back and be patient because I'm the cause of all the software delays in this company. I'd much rather have people complaining about how long it's taking and then give a solid product than to release quickly and have them complain about bugs that need to be fixed. That would detract for any further research or improvements that would have otherwise ocurred. Engineering has plenty on their hands and hate going back to old product to fix stupid bugs.
Thanks for being responsive on the message boards.

No offense Ken, But that has never been the case, This forum has never been the "Official" place to get information of when updates are launched, Unless posted by one of us users. I'm hoping by what you said that is going to change. It would seem that is what this forum should be. Instead in the past it has always been a "User to User" forum, With the "Occasional Volunteer Employee" chiming in now and again.
I've had the exact opposite experience. This is the sole place on the internet that I've found that officially announces Sprint Android updates and includes changelogs. All the other sites and forums that come close to having anything remotely approaching official usually reference a statement or thread by a Sprint employee on this very board.
The only Hero and Moment releases to date, as far as I know, were announced right here first.
I think it is a mixed bag. An October release for the Hero was declared in other arena first. October 11th was declared here first. October 9th at Best Buy was done somewhere else first.
I would have to check the dates, but I believe the Hero going to 2.1 came from HTC first, and well I really don't call 1H2010 a release date as much as it is a "We promise we are working on it" statement to slow the customer losses.
