Is their a way to deactive a phone without knowing the password?

I recieved a samsung moment from a friend. My friend doesnt know that password to get in the phone and sprint says that the phone is still under active account. But the phone has ben off for almost two weeks. Can somebody help..

Ask your "friend" where he or she "found" the phone, then do the right thing and return it to it's owner.
