Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge - Secure Folder

Are you a secret agent? Do you have something to hide? How about do you have proprietary information that can't be lost? Well then The Galaxy J3 phone will have a feature that will work for you. Introducing the "Secure Folder". Not a fancy title but don’t let it fool you this is more than just a folder.

Samsung knows there is sensitive information out there and not everyone wants everyone to have access to it. This feature uses the corporate grade Knox feature but at a consumer level. It gives users the ability to create a full encrypted OS running within their regular device. Users would access the folder and setup a new profile one with its own email, application access, files and camera access. It is a complete user account but secured. What happens within the secure folder environment stays and cannot be accessed from outside the folder nor can the data be accessed from a connected USB connection. If the device gets rooted the partition where the content of the secure folder is stored becomes immediately locked down with no access.

What good is this for; well glad you asked. Yes, there are already apps out there that can be used to secure folders including pictures and files. What the "Secure Folder does is create an embedded security platform for users to operate under with full protection knowing their kids, spouses,  or friends or even co-workers cant access the information and delete something in error. It not just a repository for your storage it is your safety net to protect your information giving you that added security.

Setup is the same as your regular account. When you access the folder for the first time it will ask for you to setup your lock type either a pattern, pin, or password. Once chosen you will have access to the secure folder main page. There is no dashboard, screen saver feature. Just a folder with access to the applications you allow.

The basic applications will already be present, photos, camera, files access, email contacts, internet, and Samsung notes. But you can add in any other application already downloaded on the device or connect to the Playstore to download the application.

There are very limited features from within the secure folder. Some of the features are tied around ways to handle notifications. As with other notifications you can completely disable them or only allow that which is deemed necessary for your needs. You can even limit the caller ID from showing contacts info only listed in the secure folder contacts app. Only other features include whether to display the “Secure Folder” or users will have to navigate to the security section under settings to access the folder. And then standard application and account management is available.

While this feature may not be for everyone it is nice to know Samsung is starting to provide Enterprise grade security to the consumers. The Secure Folder does have its advantages and if you are in need of security or an overall secret profile then this will be right for you. Now go out 007 as this message will self-destruct in 5….4…..3…2..1.

Enjoy and remember never use your phone or tablet while driving, be safe and healthy.
