Using Google Voice, how does SMS work on a phone with no Google App?

I have an EVO on line I integrated with GV and that is all working fine, however my txt messages come into my GV app, as opposed to my SMS app, which is fine.

My question is, since this integration is available for all Sprint numbers, not just ones with smartphones, what happens when someone txts a phone number that doesnt have an GV app (like a Palm Pre)?  Does the txt still get delivered to the SMS app on the phone?

Google voice users can forward their GV text messages to their email. 

My prior set up (was on ATT) was to receive my text messages via my gmail.  Since I have gmail on all my devices (iphone, desktop & ipad) I was able to respond quicker since I sometimes leave my phone in another room while working on my laptop.  Also, I like having a searchable archive on the web of all my prior text messages.

I am new to Sprint and missing text messages in the cloud feature i hacked together when i was on ATT.
