Tips from BlackBerry - Reloading Device Software

Reloading BlackBerry® Device Software is sometimes necessary when resolving an issue with a BlackBerry smartphone. If a device is running version 5.0.X for example, then you can reload that same software on the BlackBerry smartphone to resolve customer issues.

This is very similar to reformatting the operating system on a computer. If a computer is running Microsoft® Windows® XP you can reinstall Microsoft® Windows® XP back on the computer to try and resolve issues.

You require the following items to reload BlackBerry Device Software to a BlackBerry smartphone:

  • USB Cable
  • BlackBerry smartphone
  • An Internet connection

There are two ways to reload BlackBerry Device Software to a BlackBerry smartphone:

  • Using the Internet.
This is also known as web-software loading (WebSL). This is the fastest and easiest way for a customer to reload software to a BlackBerry smartphone.
  • Using BlackBerry® Desktop Manager

The update process takes 30-45 minutes to complete.
