LG 2019 device comparison G8 vs V50 vs G8X

Sprint Product Ambassador

LG launched 3 flagships this year. So why 3? how are they different? Which one should I buy? Well hang on and we will discuss it right here, right now...

 LG G8X Dual Screen

 LG V50 5G

LG G8 (earlier in the year)

So I won't go over a typical comparison grid, you can get those yourself. But rather I will go over some significant differences to help you decide hopefully which one to buy.

First the similarities: All 3 have the latest Qualcomm 855 chipset, so performance wise they are all pretty close. All have Android 9 out of the box and hopefully will get Android 10 soon. Storage is also 128 GB across the board.

Besides the G8's new hand gestures and Screen as a Speaker feature, the rest of the specs are just a bump up from its predecessor. It is a tad bit smaller than the other 2 (6.1" vs 6.4"). Battery is also 3500 mAH which makes it the smallest in the lineup

The G8X seems to have been built on the V50 "chassis" The size, battery and internals are quite similar. Key differences are

  • The # of cameras - Rear: G8X like G8 has 2, V50 has 3; Front: G8X has 1, V50 as 2, G8 has 2 also
  • Fingerprint reader - V50 uses the usual rear fingerprint reader as its brothers, G8X has LG's first in screen fingerprint reader
  • Dual Screen case option - Do not think right now the V50 will work with the G8X dual screen case
  • Screen resolution - G8X has a lower resolution, kinda in the middle of 1080p and 4kish, so maybe 2kish? its 1080x2340 vs V50's 1440x3120
  • G8X and G8 do not have 5G, V50 does!

So, how does this help? If you care about having 2 screens, for free (meaning the case is free not the phone), then G8X is your winner. If you want 5G, V50 is right there. If you want a decent LG phone for a decent price, G8 will do the job just fine!

Until next time
