We should forward a link to this topic to all cell phone carriers out there. Send it to their advertising and marketing people and let them have some fun with it for a while. It's cleraly doing us, the Sprint customer, no good. We continue to get no response or respect.
I guess Dan is too busy trying to convince potential customers to join up. Maybe he ought to pay closer attention to this existing customer base.
I bought the TP2 3 days after it was introduced and then realized that WinMo 6.5 was not on it. I fumed about it for a month or two, especially after reading the threads here. Then I learned about cooked ROMS and MightyRom in particular. I have never flashed a phone or unlocked it so I was very nervous about doing this so I could have 6.5. However, after careful studying, I performed the upgrade to MightyRom and I have not looked back. I know have zero issues with the phone and I have been able to enjoy 6.5. Additionally, you can always flash back to the original should you ever need it. It is really not hard at all. Just takes a little research.
You won't be sorry if you do it properly....
How is it that Sprint & HTC hasn't created a Windows Mobile 6.5 with HTC Sense but somebody by the name of "thewebmogul" has a video with a Sprint touch pro 2 running Windows Mobile 6.5 & HTC Sense?!?!?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ll9v05PHlU
I am a new TP 2 owner , phone arrived last night and I too did not realize winmo 6.5 was not already on the device. If I understand correctly after adding
the Mightyrom I then can update in the phone to 6.5? Or are more steps needed? Updating the rom sounds easy enough but I want to make sure . TIA
Yes,...You have to unlock the TP2 first using this:
After you unlock the pfone then chose a ROM to your liking at www.ppcgeeks.com
I personally use Mighty Rom who is one of the best Rom's out there. You can use his official ROM which is WM 6.5 with Manila 2.1 or... you can use his WAR Rom which is also WM 6.5 with Manila 2.5. Just download the ROM...do a hard reset after installing it and enjoy. Any issues or problems just go to PPC GEEKS and they will answer all your question's.

What comes after the 6.5 upgrade? This is EOL for this device given that it won't be upgradeable to WP7. What is everyone going to complain about then? We get WM6.5, MS has stated quite categorically that after that (as hardware/software companies do to force us to buy new hardware/software every few years, ever heard of planned obsolescence?) almost 99% of the phones and devices out there are NOT upgradeable to WP7.
What then folks? You get WM6.5 you complain that this or that is missing. A bunch of chefs cooks the mess out of them, enhancing, and making them that much more usable and most of you won't use the cooked ROMs but what then?
What's the next 17- or 70-page thread that you're all going to be "up in arms" about?
I don't work for Sprint, don't particularly care when/if they come out with the new ROM. MS has stated that we can expect nothing more from them in terms of WM6.5 compatibility with WP7.
Why is no one complaining that MS is doing this with the blessing of handset makers to make use buy all new phones? The TP2 hasn't been out more than a year and it's already EOL simply because MS and the handset makers want to force us to buy new devices?
Isn't that planned obsolescence? Why are any consumer advocates falling for this? How would anyone feel if you bought a 2010 car and in 2011 they tell you you can't use the same tires or gas as in the 2010 and you have to buy a new car just to be compatible. Even the software may not be backwards compatible.
How is it this is allowed to happen and no one wants to point out that most of us bought our phones and we're being asked to buy more AGAIN.
So, we can contribute to more landfills? Trade in our ~$500 devices for $45 in their "generous" buy-back programs?
That's so much twaddle.
Windows 7 is no replacement for 6.5, and microsoft has said that they will continue 6.5 on other phones. Windows 7 is not a power users OS. So, 6.5 will be viable for some time to come, and 6.5 is planned as a low cost alternative to 7 for phones (like XP for "ultra-low-cost-PCs").
the upgrade just came out.. check it out here: http://www.htc.com/us/support/touch-pro2-sprint/downloads/
im debating on whether or not its worth even gettin the update.. any inputs?
