Re: iPhone 4S is or isn't 4G?

Can someone break this down for me?

I have an IPhone 4s on the sprint network but can only see 3g on the phone.

Repeatedly told by Sprint that "San Antonio has 4g LTE and it's really fast."

Can the Iphone 4s recieve 4g LTE or any other format 4g?

If so, should 4g be displayed on the phone?

Thank you

Re: iPhone 4S is or isn't 4G?

ATT has an enhanced data network called HSPA+ (I'll keep it simple and call it a sort of turbo-charged 3G).  They call it 4G and Apple even re-programmed their iPhone 4/4S icon (earlier this year) to indicate 4G when on HSPA+. It is indeed faster than 3G (where available).  Like Sprint, ATT is also building out a 4G LTE network (as we speak).

On this site, Sprint says you can expect 3G speeds of 400 to 700 Kbps, with bursts to 2 Mbps. ATT's HSPA+ (where available) is faster than Sprint's 3G network. I believe you may get up to 4 Mbps (I'll leave it to you to search this out).

The Sprint iPhone 4 and 4S run on 1X and 3G data only (no 4G).  The Sprint iPhone 5 will run on 1X, 3G and 4G LTE.
